The CSID Family Story
Some families have bad bellies. We are one of those families - from my great grandmother to the little peanuts tootling around the carpets and making stinks, we are definitely one of those families... until recently. And this is where my lovely sister over in Canada can take over with her merry tale of sloppy poops and Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency.
In The First 3 Weeks Of The Diet? Try Our 3 Week Baseline Recipes
This is the method we are currently following, it's pretty simple:
- a 3 week limited diet to establish a symptom free baseline
Being aware of your body is the key to this. It's helpful to keep a diary of the foods you are eating and anything you notice in your body, these can be good and bad. Helena noticed her muscles relaxing, Vicki noticed her nose wasn't running when she played tennis, I noticed the lack of spasm in my colon and the return of a beautifully flat tummy. There might be foods on the limited diet list that we react to and its important to find out what these are. I didn't find a base line until I cut out all starch - so no potato for me. Try csidinfo.com for a list of foods. They test their own just to be sure.

Experimenting? Finding Your Level? Try Our Post 3 Week Recipes
- and now it's time to experiment; introduce one food every 2-3 days, small amounts on the first day and gradually increasing.
It's important to know that we may have a cumulative tolerance level, I might be able to tolerate 6 chips or 2 slices of flax loaf, but if I want both in one day I can only have 3 chips and 1 slice. Knowing what foods contain starch and which contain sucrose and maltose can help with these choices. Also this is not a weight loss diet, it is important to find enough carbohydrates so that our bodies don't go into ketosis (this is the weight loss state enjoyed by people following the Atkins Diet). Eating more meals a day with plenty of fruit and vegetables is a pretty fantastic consequence of being csid if you're greedy like me.
